Junior Finals Day

Saturday August 29th 2009 saw the conclusion of the Junior Championships 2009. It was a pleasure to be involved in the running of this event and to be involved with so many talented and well mannered kids.

The weather could have been kinder with a blustery wind blowing for most of the day coupled with a few hefty showers however this did not dampen the spirits of the competitiors and we experienced some excellent matches.

My thanks go to all the Mums and Dads who helped out and to Norrie and Liz for all their valuable help on the day and to my wife Carolina for all her help and understanding throughout the events.

A highlight of the Junior Finals Day this year was the inception of the Family Doubles. This came about as a bit of fun between matches when Isobel Ann Johnston and Son Andrew took on Clare Nisbet and her Son Blair. In attire not quite meeting the standards of Wimbledon the Mums put on a fine perfomance with borrowed rackets and set the standard for what I hope will become a regular event in the Championships.

At two games all a tie break would decide the winner and it was Clare and Blair who eventually won.

Thanks to Isobel Ann and Clare for being such good sports and keeping the fun in tennis.

Senior Finals Day

A blustery and showery day assured me that the decsion made to have sandwiches and sausage rolls rather than a barbie was a good one.
